In 1988 (or was it 1989) NASA conducted a series of orbital chemical release
expirements. This picture was of the first release from an earth-orbitting
sattelite in 1988/89. It was taken near the observation deck at the Lick
Observatory in San Jose,
California at 8:20pm PDT (local time).
On this day, the entire Santa Clara Valley was covered with fog.

(Directly ahead is the old Radar station on Mt. Uhmunumummn)
. I expected
to see a swarm of folks up on the mountain top, but I (and two others from
the observatory staff) appeared to be the only ones there.
In this image, the sattelite was travelling from top left to lower right. This
exposure was taken two minutes after the release.
As I have more details on the actual expirement, I will post them here.

The 'sheeting' effect was real, and was not caused by camera movement. This
photo has been 'retouched' only in the sense that the brightness has been increased by 5%. The colors (as shown) are accurate.
